I enjoy cleaning. When I have a clean environment I just feel more organized. So it is part of my regular routine. While working from home and sheltering in place, I have indulged my tendency towards cleaning. While doing so I asked myself two questions:
- How can I make this more efficient?
- How can I make this more fun?
It quickly occurred to me that I could probably do both. I needed a plan. So I got out some graph paper, pens, and markers and got to work.
The first thing I did was draw my home on graph paper. Then I divided everything into sections that I knew that I could clean and organize in under 30 minutes. Then I let it sit to mull it over. The next day I made some adjustments and inked and colored my map. In the end, I had 16 zones.
Now here comes the fun.
I went and dug up a 16-sided die from my RPG dice. The 16-sided die is not that common, I have a few from sets I bought from Gamescience.
Now each day, in addition to my normal cleaning, I roll the die and whatever comes up, I spend an extra 20 minutes deep cleaning. It injects a little bit of excitement into my day while allowing me to feel a sense of control over my environment.
This might not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a fun twist on cleaning, or if you are like me and are just looking for an excuse to roll cool dice, then why not roll your way to a cleaner home.
